I originally bought by fissure armor for my ele cos it was different and you didnt see many people in it. Now I feel its a bit common so I might get some 15k aero again.

While the Fissure armor sets may not hold all the glory they once did I like to think mines a bit unique. I bought it for my monk prior to the default color change and never dyed it. I've never met another monk with the basic tan armor. It may not be a bright flashy color or anything special to others but to know that unless done so prior to that update no one can copy and its sorta unique in that way. Makes it a little bit more special to me. I commend those that do get theirs honestly and work hard for it, but sadly it doesnt really hold much meaning in the community except to be scrutinized against it seems now.

I debated buying a fissure set at first as well. In the end I decided to go for it for a few reasons.
Looks - The set I'm going after (the male mesmer) looks pretty good in my opinion.
Rarity - In the nearly two years I have been playing the game, I can only recall seeing male mesmers in fissure armor maybe three or four times.
Challenge - I have run out of goals in game that I actually care about accomplishing. As a result, I'm going after the one thing that held interest for me that I thought at one point was nearly impossible.
Inheritance - Since I strongly doubt that we will be able to transfer our funds or anything non-customized to GW2 through the Hall of Monuments (because of the economy rape that would quickly ensue) I figure that I might as well blow all my cash on stuff I can keep and pass on before the next game comes around.
If any of these reasons work for you, use them. I say that you shouldn't give two craps about what other people think and do it because you want to. If you don't think it's worth it, then there's no point in doing it. If you are still interested in getting the set, then do it for yourself and no one else.

What are you saying here is that you don't respect those that do have FoW or do repect them either or either?

Back in the day---- There were no titles to pursue, except the HA emote.
15K armour was the best you could get. Weapons were about the only staus item there were and the ultimate was FoW armour. It took months to acquire.
I have one set for my female necro and I love it. Never dyed it, it looks cool as can be with her short bob of red hair. Even bought a second set of boots for the bloodstained variety before you could put inscriptions on it. I farmed and sold stuff to get it and made countless trips into FoW and UW to get the shards and ectos to buy it.
I used to get comments on it, but it is rather ordinary now, but I will never put something else on her.

FoW still holds a place of respect to me, but my first reaction to someone in FoW is "Ebayer" :\

Personally, I'm getting obsidian for several reasons:
1)I *think* I have enough titles to wear with the armor and not to be called an Ebayer.
2)10 months wearing 15K druids gets kinda boring...
3)I don't particularly care what other people think of it, because I'm getting this armor for myself. I see it as enough of an achievement (for me) to make it worth the time I will spend getting it.

Well, to me fissure is just another armor (and yes I have it). It isn't even that expensive any more with ecto at 5.5-6k, of course, we saw a few days of stuff like that after factions release or whenever that debacle was. Then again, I don't do much PvE any more, just PvP, so maybe it matters more there.

I buy armour because I like the look of it. For instance my mesmer has elite nobles & canthan, but also has a set that's 1.5k krytan for attire & boots and 1.5k kurzick for hose & gloves. Why? Because I like the way it looks.
For the longest time my monk had 2 sets of armour. One set is 1.5k Tyrian, the other is 1.5k Kurzick. Why? I simply didn't like any of the other sets. These sets I did like. The only other set of monk armour I liked? Obsidian, which I acquired for her a month or two ago through hard work and farming, not ebay. Did I gain some status from getting that armour? No. I just got my monk some armour that I think looks good. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and all that.
Taking a look at the rest of the sets...the only one I like is the Ranger. After I've worked on some titles for my assassin I'll probably go back to farming Underworld and get my Ranger a set. There are a couple other sets I don't mind, namely Mesmer and Necro, but, tbh, it's not worth the effort of farming. The others? Ugly. I see people wandering around in those sets and I think "waste of money", but again, to each their own. If they like it, they like it. Or at least I hope they like it. If they just bought it because it costs so much, that's really shallow.
Do I see someone in a set of Obsidian armour and think they have some sort of exalted status? No. This is a game. The only status you get from it is 'gamer geek', a title I earned a long, long time ago. We should be here for fun. If you're looking to bolster your ego from some accomplishment in a game, you should probably turn off your computer and go do something with your life.

Ecto isnt going up anymore..max 6k.
It will remain stable in 4.5-5.5k range until GWEN, willl move toward 6-6.5k then will fall back at 4.5-5.5k forever.

All I've been doing in GW the past few weeks is play HM. And strangely enough, every PUG I've been in has at least 2 monks (one being me), and the other monk almost always has FoW armor. I've been seeing alot more players wandering around with a FoW set. Still, when I see someone in FoW I'll still say to my mate "Check out this Ele/Necro/Monk/Dervish/Paragon/Assassin/Ritualist/Mesmer/Ranger with Obsidian Armor" I don't do it for Warriors because Warriors with a set of FoW has been a pretty common site for quite some time now.
So, to get to my point: "I think it still gets noticed, but has lost a lot of prestige"

After reading this thread and really thinking about what I think about FoW armor your comments pretty much sums up what I feel about it. I
really don't notice armors much anymore. There are just tooooooo many different styles for all the classes to keep track of anymore. I, like you, think about the beginning times of Guild Wars, before Factions came out.
When there were fewer armor sets around, we had to find different ways to stand out and be noticed and that was with eye-catching new dye jobs. Then prestige begin to set in with those that could afford to buy the 15K sets at the Grotto and the Citadel. At that time FoW was considered the pinnacle of prestige and really standing out from the crowd. If you could afford 15k you were pretty well off and diferent from most, but man o man, if you had FoW you were the bomb.
IMO a big mistake was made by Anet in regards to Prestigious Armors and it is this: The materials needed to craft them should NOT be able to be purchased at a Rare Materials Merchant
We should not be able to run up to a merchant and buy all the ectos/rubies/sapphires needed to craft a complete set of prestigious armor. I believe that they should only be able to be purchased or traded player-to-player. This would mean that that there would be a tremendous drop in the number of players who have them. People would have to rely on farming them themselves or buying them from those who do farm. Then the insane people who would buy enough of the rare material to craft the armor truly would be different and stand out from the crowd.
In summary I think there are just too many armor skins available in the game and every player (with some effort) can attain them. No one seems to "stand out in the crowd" anymore. The pride you feel in what you have on your character really comes down to personal preference, not what you think others will think of what you have on them.
just my opinion, i could be wrong

I only bought FoW helm/armor for my rit, because it is unlike any other rit armors and the look is great. It is pretty noticeable to others that it's a fow, unlike for some other prof. Fow definitely isnt the best looking set for all professions though.

FoW armors are too easy to get if you ask me... I bought 2 sets in 5-6 months and I started the game over from scratch. People who wear FoW don't stand out to me anymore, compared to when I had 15k armor. It is no longer elite to me... especially with all ebayers going around. I'm tired of being called an ebayer for wearing my armor so might as well wear 15k... Anyways, the point of my post is that I no longer think FoW armor is something special or elite.
